Why Older Kids Need Extra Prep

Toddlers and big kids have completely different sleep needs than babies. By ages 2-7, children have:

  • Strong memories and emotional attachments to their current sleep routines and associations

  • The cognitive ability to understand what's happening, which means they can feel more anxious or resistant to changes

  • More developed willpower and opinions about bedtime, making parent-led changes alone less effective

  • A need for autonomy and involvement in the process to feel secure and excited about the transition

Without proper preparation, sleep training older children often leads to more pushback, more tears, and a much longer process. But when they're mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared—and involved as part of the team—the process becomes something they're excited about rather than something being done to them.

That's why my packages for 2-7 year olds include the custom prep plan, care package (US only), and daily check-ins to monitor progress and adjust the plan as needed. This foundation makes all the difference in creating lasting change with far less resistance.

Why My Approach is Different

Unlike traditional sleep training that focuses only on sleep techniques, I start with a custom prep plan for kids ages 2-7.

Before we make any sleep changes, the prep plan will prepare your child mentally, emotionally, and physically for what's coming. This builds connection and attachment to you, the parents, and helps build confidence in their own abilities.

They become part of the team—working with you toward better sleep, not against you. The result? Far less pushback and a smoother, more successful process for everyone.

  • “Courtney was an amazing resource as we learned all about the best strategies for sleep coaching. Before we started working with Courtney, we felt overwhelmed in regard to knowing what to do, didn't have a solid plan or schedule, and we were all extremely sleep deprived. Courtney was patient, calm, supportive and such a great resource as we learned as a family what worked best for us. She gave us the necessary tools to help us figure out what would work best for our family and our schedule. She truly helped improve our family's quality of life and helped us feel so much more confident as first-time parents. I can't recommend Courtney enough!”

    -Lexi S., mom of a 9-month-old

  • “Courtney’s support was invaluable to our sleep training journey! My little one was at an age and weight where they could sleep through the night without feedings, but I was hesitant to implement any formal sleep training structure. After several weeks of interrupted sleep, I realized that we needed some support for the benefit of both myself and my little one. With Courtney’s support and guidance, we’re now both sleeping through the night! I feel confident that if/when we enter a sleep regression stage, we’ll be able to successfully re-implement the techniques that we learned from Courtney.”

    -Kat W., mom of a 6-month-old

  • “We can’t say enough positive things about Courtney. She listened and really got to know my child before getting started. Then she provided the support and guidance to get us where we wanted to be. Within a couple weeks our son started sleeping through the night. This has been a life-changing experience for us. We would recommend working with Courtney to anyone!”

    -Allison S., mom of a 15-month-old

  • “Courtney is awesome! My only regret is not finding her when I had a newborn, but better late than never. Courtney showed me that it is never too late to help your kiddo sleep better. She helped us work through a rough period with our 2.5-year-old as we dealt with a regression, teething, night wakings, and a tricky nap transition. My son now regularly puts himself down for naps — before Courtney, I had to rock him to sleep. (And if he doesn’t, I have a plan!) Courtney was an amazing resource— she was patient and kind, a great communicator (always checking in!), and knowledgeable without being pushy. She gave us lots of options so we could decide what strategies we wanted to try. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is struggling. You shouldn’t have to figure it out on your own!”

    -Christy R., mom of a 2-year-old

  • "Courtney helped us tremendously! I really truly thought our daughter would never sleep more than 2 hour stretches and now with Courtney's help, she is sleeping the whole night! She listened and created a plan we were comfortable with and checked in/adjusted until we were seeing real results. She is a miracle worker!"

-Stefanie S., mom of an 8-month-old

  • "When we were struggling to get our 22-month-old out of our bed and sleeping through the night in his own crib, Courtney was exceptional. She listened to our needs and created a plan that honored our parenting style. It was easy to understand and implement. Within 2 weeks, we were all getting the best sleep we'd had in months!"

    -Rachel W., mom of a 22-month-old

  • "I was really struggling postpartum with my second and was getting only 2 hour max sleep stretches. I thought I knew how to develop good sleep habits as my first was sleeping through the night within the first 6 months, but I quickly found out I had a lot to learn. I requested Courtney’s help and she developed a plan specifically for my son. Within the first 2 nights my son was sleeping longer stretches and going to bed easier. I appreciated that Courtney formatted his plan to respect my desires as a parent. She has provided me with wisdom for future regressions and many product suggestions that have benefited my family."

    -Lauren M., mom of a 4-month-old

  • "Courtney was super helpful in developing a sleep plan for our 6-year-old son. There can be many different transitions and considerations for sleeping during all of the stages of development. I very much appreciate Courtney's encouragement, boundary setting, and suggestions for seemingly simple things like a sleep timer or different curtains, which have made a huge difference in the amount and quality of sleep that our son is getting."

    -Chelsea M., mom of a 6-year-old

  • "Having the plan and guidance, along with support was key to getting our little guy to sleep. We went from basically no sleep, to sleeping through the night rather quickly and better naps in a few weeks! So glad we took this journey!"

    -Stephanie G., mom of a 5-month-old

  • "Courtney has been amazing at helping my husband and I with our daughter's sleep. Our daughter was really struggling with naps and ever since we have put Courtney’s plan into place she has been an amazing napper. She was super quick at getting the plan/schedule to us and has been in contact ever since. She is super quick to communicate if we have any questions or concerns. I would recommend her to anyone. "

    -Angela B., mom of a 6-month-old

  • "My husband and I were ready to get our baby sleeping in his crib. Courtney was just the help we needed to make this happen. From the very first consultation, Courtney was incredibly supportive and informative. She took the time to understand our child's unique needs and preferences and then tailored a sleep plan that felt achievable for our family. We never felt judged, and she always addressed our concerns with patience and a wealth of knowledge. Courtney was there for us every step of the way, checking in regularly and offering adjustments as needed. There were definitely some tough nights, but with her guidance and encouragement, we finally achieved sleep success with our 6-month-old sleeping 12 hours a night!! We can't thank Courtney enough for how she helped us."

    -Kylee M., mom of a 6-month-old

  • “Courtney really helped coach me to get my son on a solid nap and sleep schedule! She brought deep care, attention to detail, and customization to our plan. Within just a week’s time, my 8-month-old started putting himself to sleep for naps and more consistently was sleeping through the night! (Prior to Courtney, we had no true schedule and naps were always hard). Courtney was proactive about coaching and encouragement, which was incredibly helpful during this process. Her communication is seamless! I can’t recommend Courtney enough for all of your child's sleep needs!”

-Savannah M., mom of an 8-month-old

  • "Money well spent! Courtney helped us get our infant napping and sleeping through the night in two weeks. She was so responsive and answered all the questions we had. Happier baby and happier and rested parents."

-Nicole S., mom of an 8-month-old
